The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie

The moment every Quintessential Quintuplets fan has been waiting for—who will Futaro choose?! Will it be the appetite-driven disaster? The girl who loves historical figures a little too much? The talented actress? The tough, caring cook? Or the athletic tomboy?

The End of the Story… Sorta

Yes, this movie serves as the conclusion to the Quintessential Quintuplets story—well, almost. An epilogue was released not too long ago, taking place during the honeymoon after the wedding. However, for most fans, this is the definitive ending.

At the end of the last season, we saw Futaro share a kiss—but with who? No one knows. Not even Futaro. (If you’re curious, watch the show or read the manga!) What makes this kiss significant is that it happened in front of the Bell of Vows. Legend says that whoever you kiss when the bell rings is the one you will marry. Meaning, Futaro unknowingly kissed his future wife.

A Mystery Unfolds

The movie revolves around the mystery of discovering which sister he kissed. The twist? Futaro has developed feelings for all of them and privately confesses this to each sister. With the school festival approaching, he promises to make his final decision by the end of the event.

The movie follows the five days of the festival, with Futaro spending meaningful time with each girl. As the days progress, new revelations emerge about the sisters, adding more depth to their individual stories.

A Love Story or a Dating Sim?

I love Quintessential Quintuplets. I truly do. I appreciate the conclusion, and I enjoyed the movie—for what it is. That being said, it undeniably feels like a dating sim. With each festival day focusing on a different girl, it almost mirrors the format of a visual novel (which, fun fact, the series actually does have a game based on this scenario). While it doesn’t have the structure of a traditional movie, turning this final segment into a series of episodes wouldn’t have worked either. The decision to make it a film was the best way to keep the audience engaged.

The Big Decision

And then comes the choice. But no, I’m not telling you who it is. Not even a hint. What I will say is that the final pick wasn’t a popular one among fans. While I wasn’t entirely happy with it, the movie does attempt to justify the decision. From what I’ve heard, the honeymoon special expands on this choice and makes it feel even more natural, but I have yet to watch it myself.

Final Thoughts

This review is shorter than my previous ones because I’ve already discussed the animation, voice acting, and character dynamics in depth. This is purely about how the movie played out for me.

Final rating: 7.5/10.
